VCF lose out to Cádiz CF amidst impactful and intolerable racist abuse to Diakhaby (2-1)
Valencia CF visited top-flight newcomers Cádiz CF following the International break on the 4th of April at 6:30 pm kick-off time at the Estadio Ramón de Carranza on Matchday 29 of LaLiga Santander.
Valencia CF had a strong start to the game penning Cádiz CF inside their own box and bring menace up top through Daniel Wass who tested the Cádiz CF keeper from outside the box and from set-pieces.
Aforementioned, Daniel Wass tried his luck again from distance bringing yet another save out of Ledesma. Alas, Juan Cala made it 1-0 to Cádiz CF against the run of play pouncing on a defensive let-off at the back.
Kevin Gameiro restored parity minutes later following a fine Gonçalo Guedes move who laid it off in behind into Kevin Gameiro who tucked it away with a fine finish beyond Ledesma on 19 minutes.
The play was halted with 36 minutes on the clock, as players reacted to a racial epithet by Juan Cala towards Mouctar Diakhaby and late on, resumed upon Mouctar Diakhaby’s request who was subbed off for fellow centre-back Hugo Guillamón.
Thierry Correia hit the post after a clever Kevin Gameiro pass. Shortly after Gonçalo Guedes tried his luck but his effort flew over the crossbar.
The game finished locked together at 1-1 at the Ramón de Carranza.
Valencia CF came out in the second half and José Gayà got his shot away which went over the crossbar. Valencia CF had more of the ball moments later, Carlos Soler delivered a clever ball into the box and Hugo Guillamón got to it.
Uroš Račić forced Ledesma into a save with a powerful shot across the face of goal over the hour mark.
Javi Gracia made a double substitution bringing on Cádiz-born Manu Vallejo and Denis Cheryshev with little under twenty minutes to go replacing Daniel Wass and Álex Blanco respectively.
Valencia CF kept on pushing for the winning goal through dangerous chances from Manu Vallejo who timed his run to perfection but could not quite guide it on target and then, Denis Cheryshev and then again fired it over the bar.
Marcos Mauro made it 2-1 to Cádiz CF late on and Javi Gracia made late attacking substitutions to get something out of the game, alas, the game finished 2-1 to Cádiz CF in a game heavily affected by racism.
